If you’re a single mom, your day probably begins like mine does–with chaos and noise. Demands for instant breakfast, sounds of siblings fighting, electronic toys or games being powered up. And if you’re a noise-sensitive introvert who hasn’t yet had her coffee, this is NOT an ideal way to start your day!
[Oh, and side note, helpful lovies who have good sleepers–my little ones will get up early if I try to get up earlier than they do, so we can scratch that advice…except for the teenager, of course!]
So how exactly does a Bible verse help with all of this? It’s not like I have time in the morning mess to peacefully study the Word, right?
True. But I have this short verse memorized.
My Favorite Verse, Examined
Be still and know that I Am God. Psalm 46:10
I’ve always loved this. Let’s take a closer look.
Be Still
Well, if you insist! Music to this busy mom’s ears…
Just knowing that no action is needed on my part, that I can be calm, is refreshing.
Know that I Am God
Basically, I can give up control. Sure, I’m still the parent, the adult in the house. I have to make the choices and the rules. But the final outcome? That’s NOT me.
That’s God.
Humans will always disappoint us, fail us, annoy us, because humans have feet of clay. I will disappoint, fail, and annoy my children. What a relief that I am not the one in ultimate control.
How It Helps Me
So when I wake up to a morning of chaos and noise, if I can take just a moment to breathe, be still, and remember that I am not in charge of absolutely everything, I can make it.
What’s Your Favorite Verse?
Do you have a favorite verse? If so, how does it help you?
If not, no worries. There’s plenty of verses to go around ; )
